Tony Romo’s PGA Tour foray was forgettable, missing the cut by 16 shots and finishing last at the alternate event Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. That won’t stop the former quarterback from making a stab at the Web.com circuit. The tour announced on Tuesday that Romo has entered its qualifying tournament.

Romo will be teeing it up at the pre-qualifying stage at Lantana Golf Club in Texas on Wednesday morning. The 38-year-old currently holds amateur status; per Web.com Tour regulations, amateurs can compete provided their handicap index does not exceed 2.0. Romo owns a +0.4 figure.

Since his sponsor exemption at Puntacana, Romo’s enjoyed some success in the sport. He won the Racine Tri-Course Amateur Championship by nine shots in July and captured the celebrity-centric American Century Championship later that month. Romo also attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open, but did not advance out of sectional qualifying.

The Web.com Tour is not foreign to fielding non-golf star power. Early this month NBA MVP Steph Curry played at the Ellie Mae Classic for the second consecutive year, while Jake Owen competed at the Nashville Open. In 2014, tennis pro Mardy Finish attempt to secure a Web.com card, but did not advance past the pre-qualifying stage.

Romo will battle 67 players at Latana. Approximately 228 qualifying positions plus ties will be available for pre-qualifying contestants to advance to the first qualifying stage, set to begin September 25-28. The number of qualifying positions will be announced tomorrow, based on a pro rota basis.
